Where is our Metis Health Now - Political Cancer destroyed it....

David Chartrand was made Minister of Health in Clem Chartier’s Cabinet. In late 2004 – early 2005 the Métis National Council through the work on the Kelowna Accord began the development of the Métis National Council’s involvement in the Aboriginal Blueprint for Health (http://www.metisnation.ca/pdfs/Blueprint_aboriginal_health.pdf) .

The Métis National Council negotiated a health agreement that was suppose to give them 10 million dollars over 10 years to assist Métis students in the health industry access dollars for health training. (http://www.metisnation.ca/HHRI/default.html) In addition, there was 3 – 4 million that was for things like Capacity Building.

Now the word had come from Health Canada – “They are cancelling the Contribution Agreement because it was in default.”

We are not sure just yet what that will mean for the future of this agreement but obviously – unexplained contracts, agreements and other issues will now have to be answered for.

Thank god the truth is at last going to be made public. I understand David and brother Elbert have looked a little under the weather lately, no wonder if your that deep in shit you start to smell and I can tell you it sure smells around the MMF

Alberta challenged a gent that tried to have the funding ran through a Private company. Metco Ventures. There is never the end of Metis who want to get rich quick on Public funds. Now everyone will suffer due to one persons greed from this Metco Ventures.

Quote from Sweetgrass: "Poitras told Sweetgrass she sent a letter to Health Canada officials stating the MNA's disapproval of the agreement, referring to a motion passed at a Feb. 7 meeting of MNA's provincial council that stated "we would not go ahead with signing a Memorandum of Understanding with the MNC." We suggested that the MNA deal directly with the federal government in a bi-lateral agreement."

They are right why should a Private company profit from a Health agreement ment to better all of the Metis people.

I can see why this Funding would be suspended until after the Election to ensure that accountabilty reigns, but there is a problem still in the way that the MNC leaders are chosen.

How are we to be assured that the next leader will be accountable? The grassroots people do not have a say in who is chosen for Leadership on the Federal Level.

I am not sure of where the issue is of the President of the Women in Manitoba but I can affirm that there was absolutely no thought in the issue of the research, priorities or concerns in addressing health issues or research in relation to Métis women, Métis youth or Métis children. Unless of course giving unethical contracts to Clem and David’s political friends count.

Many of our Métis families are marginalized and no statistics are available to identify priorities and concerns around the health issues that plague our families. Many lone parent families are forced to compromise their health so they are able to pay the rent and groceries – but when it came to health our Minister David Chartrand was more concerned about his own personal wealth then the health of our people.

Now that the agreement is suspended – there can be an assessment that clearly identifies where things went wrong and to ensure that the next program is not about the transfer of money or a political slush fund but more about the issues of Métis health. I do realize that as things have been talked about the idea of bursaries and scholarships is what has been focused on when the Minister mentioned the health dollars – but I would speculate that much of the money transferred for that purpose ended up in the pockets of Métis students. I know that Mr. Boucher in Alberta is proud to announce that 50 students received money but when you do the math – they received bursaries of $3,000 each which then adds up to $150,000.00. Where did the other $422,000.00 go? That sure does not fit with other government programming where only 15% of the agreement is suppose to be expended on administering a program.

Cancer is the worst of all evils. You must rid the source to to find the cure. I believe MMC is headed in that direction, with Tony running for PRES.and the rest of the BOG willing to put the record straight a healthy MNC is in site
